Hello Ariel & Welcome to The Spotlight. I’m so excited to hear about your book, can you tell us a little about it?
Yes! Living the life of a celebrity isn’t always as perfect as it seems. Katherine Dawson was born into a life of privilege as the heiress to an apparel dynasty. Between judging a reality TV competition for budding fashion designers and having been the face of her family’s clothing line for most of her life, she’s one of the biggest celebrities in her field.
When she becomes engaged to up-and-coming television producer Nathan Taylor, she appears to have it all. To any outsider, she has a picture-perfect life, so when Katherine leaves her groom-to-be at the altar and disappears, the tabloids are full of speculation over her sudden departure.
Fleeing New York to hide out in Seattle, she quickly finds that living the life of an heiress in hiding isn’t as easy as she thought, especially after she meets a magnetic writer named Royce Reynolds. In her new life on the West Coast, she struggles to keep her anonymity, and experiences a relationship with a man who wants her for the person she is, not the celebrity she used to be.
Great premise! Okay, so the question begs, what’s the most reckless thing you’ve ever done?
I guess technically it would be that I went on a second date with my husband after he got arrested on our first date. Yes, you read that right! He was arrested. On our first date! It was on a bogus DUI charge, and I knew it at the time, even though we’d only just met that night, but I knew he wasn’t drunk or under the influence of anything else. I should also add he was later cleared of all charges, once the urine test the officers did at the DUI checkpoint came back negative for drugs. I’ll write a scenario like our first date into a book one of these days.
Oh my God! That is absolutely crazy! He had someone looking out for him. As a writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal?
The wolverine. They look small, and maybe even cuddly, but they’re the only animal that can take a kill away from a bear. That’s pretty badass.
I agree. So, your book is about an heiress who runs away. I wonder if she’ll miss the money? What was the best money you ever spent as a writer?
Attending my first conference. It gave me confidence and helped me understand I’m not alone in a lot of things I struggle with, like sometimes your characters just don’t cooperate with your plans.
I absolutely love everything about conferences. The classes you take, the people you meet, the experiences you have, make you feel like you aren’t alone in this solitary life of an author. What’s your favorite under-appreciated novel?
A Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick. It’s historical and sensual and somewhat angsty. I’ve read it at least five times, there’s just something about the story I can’t resist.
Million dollar question, are you working on another book?
Yes! I’m working on a series right now. I’ve worked on it off and on for five years. It took me forever to get the heroine in the first book right, she was elusive in the beginning. Now that I really know (and love) her, I’m almost ready to start planning the release date for the series (it’s looking like early 2020).
I can’t wait to hear more about it!. Can we have a little read?
After finishing up her wrap, she pulled the cupcake out of the clear container and took a bite. The smell of the butter frosting and bacon wafted to his nose. When he looked over at her, she had icing smudged on the corner of her mouth. Rather than offer her a napkin, he thought of a better way to get the sugary cream off her face.
“Is it good?”
Still chewing, she nodded at him, her large blue eyes crinkling up at the corners with joy.
“Can I have a taste?”
Without waiting for her to respond, he slid his fingers under her chin and pulled her mouth toward his. The soft kiss was brief, but it that didn’t make it any less powerful to him. Licking the remnant of frosting from his lips, he smiled when he saw the blush creep across her face. She was completely adorable.
“Delicious,” he whispered.

A self-professed bookworm, Netflix junkie and all around story geek, Ariel Storm started writing as an adolescent and hasn’t looked back. In her late teens she picked up a paperback romance and was hooked. Her obsession with love stories stems from her desire to shine light and positivity into a negative, dark world.
Although she’s held almost every job imaginable, from working in a restaurant, a call center and public libraries, ‘writer’ is her favorite job title, and one she feels blessed to have.
