Today is The Wild Rose Press Editor Appreciation Day!
My editor, Dianne Rich has been my lifesaver and I decided instead of coming up with the words to tell you exactly how – I’ve re-worded one of my favorite poems.
The real poem is called, “The Man in the Glass,” and its author is unknown. But it was the poem I used for almost every English assignment in high school!
The Editor in the Email
When you get what you want in your struggle for publishing
And think your book is the bestseller of the day,
Just go to your email and write to your editor
And see what that gal has to say.
For it isn’t your father nor best friend nor spouse
Whose judgment upon you must sail.
The person whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the one staring back from your email.
You may feel like Roberts or Gabaldon or Brown
And think your story will become a trend
But the editor in the email merely shakes her head
And says no, no you have a dangling participle again
She’s the woman to listen to–never mind all the rest,
For she’s with you clear to the end.
And you’ve passed your most challenging test
If the editor in the email is your friend.
You may fool all your fans down the pathway of years
Who believe you’ve solely produced your tale
But your final reward will be heartache and tears
If you don’t thank your editor in the email.
Thank you Dianne, for everything you have done for me in making my dream come true! You are a talented and extremely appreciate woman!
