Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

You know I have spent the last three days organizing and getting this website up and running.

I have the tentative feelings of a child that takes their hands away from a pile of rocks to see if anything falls!

In trying to figure out how to make a website look good and function well, than deciding how to use it and how many pages to create, is exhausting!!

I have a huge respect for the computer genius’ of the world that really are vastly superior to the rest of us mere mortals!

Today is Martin Luther King Jr. day!! An important day for all people. I often wonder what he would have felt, in terms of where we are today. If he would’ve felt the goals he so desperately wanted to achieve, were done in the way he wanted them to be.

I heard an interview by Morgan Freeman, I’m sure a lot of you may have heard it as well. I think it’s been out for years but I’m just now seeing it. Morgan Freeman is one of my favorite actors, from the first movie I ever saw him in, “Lean on Me”, then I fell madly in love with him in “Driving Miss Daisy” and “Glory”. In this interview, he’s having a conversation with Mike Wallace. Wallace asks him about black history month. Freeman calls it, “ridiculous.” Wallace looks a little shell-shocked at this response and asks him why, to which he replies, “I don’t want it. You can’t relegate my history to a month.” Wallace looks more confounded and Freeman said, “Do you have a white history month?” Wallace said no, Freeman says, “Do you want one?” Wallace “No.” Freeman, “Why not?” Wallace again was flustered. Freeman said, “I don’t want a black history month. Black history is American History.” Wallace says, “How are we going to get rid of racism?” Freeman doesn’t hesitate and says, “Stop talking about it.” He pauses and looks at Wallace, before saying, “I’m going to stop calling you a white man and I’m going to ask you to stop calling me a black man. You are Mike Wallace and I am Morgan Freeman.”

In the spirit of this day, I wonder if that was the equality Dr. King envisioned. When it doesn’t matter your race OR gender OR sexual preference OR religious preference OR financial status. So when a student applies for a student loan the individual most in need gets it. The person that earns the scholarship gets it. If someone is applying to a university and can’t check a box the school needs, they are admitted into their rightful place because they earned it. When a job becomes available, whoever is most qualified gets it. There are no segregated clubs, groups, classes of any kind. And every other scenario like that. The best candidate earns their due diligence.

I know there are people out there that would attack my statements, perhaps think me naive to think some people would just drop all their ingrained ideas and start acting responsibly. Believe me, I get that. I just feel like everything has gone so far out of control and that many don’t know good ideas from bad ideas anymore. Some individuals or groups work so hard at being politically correct that of course tensions are going to elevate on all sides. And I agree with Mr. Freeman not everything is about race, not everyone chooses to live that way. Not everyone plays that game and the ones that do have to live in that destructive, hate-filled, ugly life regardless of their race OR gender OR sexual preference OR religious preference OR financial status!

I never met MLK, in fact very few of us on the planet did and I just re-read his speech and feel Martin Luther King Jr. Day isn’t only for one group of people and I’m just wondering if that was more what he had in mind when he spoke those words. He was a visionary so something tells me that may be so.
