All About Elizabeth

Elizabeth Barone writes dark biker romance with a body count and contemporary romance with badass belles because life isn’t just heavy or light, it’s both.

Before publishing her debut novel, she was a web designer trapped in writing code instead of stories. It took a debilitating autoimmune disease to shove her toward the path she was always meant to be on.

Elizabeth has published over a dozen novels and has so many ideas for more, she’ll be employed ’til she dies. She lives in Connecticut with her husband Mike and more coffee mugs than she’ll ever need.

Welcome Elizabeth to Jeny's TattleTales

What was the hardest, most unusual, or interesting part of the story to research?

I was writing a scene in a parking garage, and I couldn’t remember what the barrier gate arm is called—you know, the thingy that lifts up once you’ve got your little ticket or paid. I asked my husband, but who understands what “What’s that thingy?” means? I tried Googling it but came up empty. It was driving me crazy, but I had to keep writing. I left a note for my editor and she figured it out. That’s how I knew we were gonna work well together.

How would someone benefit from signing up for your newsletter?

They actually get a free ebook copy of Her Mercy! It’s a spinoff novella about Bree and Mercy (Olivia’s parents), and how the club split back in the ‘90s.

How did your interest in writing originate?

I pretty much have the standard story: I grew up reading and writing stories (thanks to my mom, who got us hooked from birth). But I came from a struggling city and it was always sort of implied and encouraged that you get a good, steady job. Ultimately I went into web design, because I’d spent years building websites for my writing. But then a few things happened at once: the economy went into crisis and my small business and non-profit clients weren’t able to keep on a web designer; I started getting symptoms of my autoimmune disease, UCTD; and my business partnership collapsed. So I spent a whole summer on the couch, unemployed, trying to figure out what I wanted to do next. I’d read a lot of blogs on self-publishing and, on a whim, decided to self-publish an award-winning short story, just to sort of see the process and feel things out. I was hooked from the moment I hit publish.

What book have you read that you wish you had written?

Gone Girl, by Gillian Flynn. Every time I read it, I’m in awe and a little sad that I’ll never write like her. She’s incredible.

Ever had a crazy fan experience? What happened?

A reader somehow figured out my home address, mailed me a very big check, and in his handwritten letter, mentioned a nearby landmark that only locals knew about. It freaked me out. I mailed back the check, telling him thank you but I couldn’t possibly accept it, blocked him, and moved.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

PTSD affects so many people, in so many different ways. It’s not just a war thing. A lot of my characters are struggling with some sort of trauma, and they all handle it completely differently. With the right tools and therapist—and sometimes medication—you can learn how to cope and build a life around those wounds. There’s absolutely no shame. Murder probably isn’t the best coping tool, though, LOL!

What’s next for you?

I’m doing edits for the next spinoff novella in the series, Burning for Stixx, and then I’ll be writing the final book in the main series, A Lasting Prospect. I’ve been writing this series since 2017 and even though I’m far from finished with it, I’m looking forward to taking a little break and writing other things.

What would you most like to say to your readers?

Thank you! Just . . . thank you. I have a small group of readers but they’re very loyal and supportive, and I feel very lucky in this aspect.

A Fatal Prospect Blurb & Excerpts

Our enemies of past and present are uniting to put us in our graves. Not even death would destroy our love, but death isn’t the only thing that’s fatal…

Cliff

I’ve finally got Olivia, but she can’t give me the two things I want most: three words so I know I’m not in this alone, and a family so I can redeem all the horrible things I’ve done. My past is still chasing me, and the only way I can let it go is if I stop running and face it. I can’t allow the monster in my blood to take over, but it’s rising to the surface and I can’t fight it much longer.

Olivia

After all I’ve been through, I’m never giving away my heart, even if my heart has other plans. War strikes before Cliff and I get a chance to figure it out. When a teen football player is unspeakably violated, only my club can avenge him. A rival motorcycle club from the past is also looking for revenge, just as I realize my true feelings for Cliff.

When someone betrays us, we’ll pay the ultimate price, in both blood and love…

A FATAL PROSPECT is the third book in the River Reapers MC series, a dark romance with a body count. Some content may be disturbing to some readers.

Excerpt 1

“Be safe,” she whispers against my lips. It’s the closest to an I love you I’ll ever get. I need to hear it so badly, to know I’m not alone in this. I’ve got to know that I didn’t just trick myself into falling for the first woman I saw outside the pen, that the way I feel isn’t all in my head. I let her go ahead of me, wondering how long it’ll be before she’s out of my sight forever.

Excerpt 2

In the fall there’s a kaleidoscope rush, a sudden cutoff of air as I gasp. I tumble through forever, and all of my insecurities and doubts disappear for a sweet moment. I cling to him, taking him with me. In this suspension my heartbeat is crystal clear in my ears, an ebb and flow as he pumps into me. He spasms inside of me, and together we are full.

Hot tears fall from my eyes. There’s no going back. I can’t rebuild the dam he’s broken, but the damage isn’t damning. It’s a permanent door, marked with his name on the plate.

My lips move with the words, but there’s no sound.

What is your most attractive feature? Can I say my butt?

Cook, baker, or next question? Yes, please! I love cooking, baking, and eating.

Place you’d like to visit: Puerto Rico, Amsterdam, Ghana, Canada, Lesotho (the real kingdom that Alyssa Cole’s Thesolo is based on, in A Princess in Theory)… I want to visit so many places. My plan is basically to say yes to every author signing, just for the sake of travel.

If a movie was made about your life, who would you want to play you? I get that I look like Mila Kunis a lot, so I’ll take her!

You have a time travel machine. Where and when? I’m gonna regret this, but take me to the dinosaurs! That or Mesopotamia. I’m endlessly fascinated with how we developed language, created tools, all that.

Are you earth, wind, fire or water? I’m a Virgo, so probably earth, but I’ve also got a lot of fire.
