All About D.V. Stone

Born in Brooklyn, D.V. Stone has moved around a bit and even lived for a time on a dairy farm in Minnesota before moving back east. Throughout her wandering, she always considered herself a Jersey Girl. She met and married the love of her life, Pete—a lifelong Jersey Man, and moved this time to Sussex County. They live with Hali, a mixed breed from the local shelter, and their cat, Baby. Certain threads appear in her books, like Heavenly Brew the coffee shop, Taylor Egg and Cheese, and in Rainbow Sprinkles, her time as an ice cream shop owner is evident. Even the basset hounds are part of her past.

Welcome D.V. to Jeny's TattleTales

Hello! D.V. Stone! Tell us all about the new projects on the horizon?

Well, this July 8th I have a second book, a novella, with Wild Rose Press coming out. Rainbow Sprinkles is a second chance romance. It’s a story near and dear to my heart.

Do tell! What inspired it?

I took the NaNoWriMo challenge a few years ago. 50,000 words in 30 days. I had to write what I knew. In the past I was both an EMT and owned a small restaurant. I completed the challenge but then there were a few years in-between where Rock House Grill sat on the shelf until I got around to editing. I love it! And besides those great endeavors, what do you do for fun, besides writing? I’m a Glamper. My DH and I have a 5th Wheel camper and love to travel. Nothing better than sitting around a campfire with a glass of wine and either a good book or family and friends..

You are brave! What is your favorite quote?

Your thoughts of God are too  human. ~ Martin Luther

That’s wonderful and very apropos today. Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

YES! Oh, sorry didn’t mean to shout. This is a quote from a minor character that grasps the concept. His name is John and he helps Aden in rehabilitation. “Circumstances change us. We can curse them and let them control us. Or, we allow whatever happens to make us better.”

Wonderful. If you could have dinner with any author, living or dead, who would it be and why?

J.R.R. Tolkien. He is my favorite author and the inspiration for me wanting to be one.

That would be a wild dinner wouldn’t it? What a creative mind. What do you use to envision your characters?

Do you have a storyboard, pictures, mental images, etc? I keep images I’ve googled in my header of the document. This gives the characters a face to go with the name and shows up on each page. Also, when I get stuck, I can look them in the eye and ask, “What do you want?”

Excerpt

“Easy, you’re going to be okay.” A soft voice eased through the chaos around him. The owner of the voice grabbed his arms and held them in a firm but gentle grip. “I’m right here with you. You are not alone.” “Can hardly m-move.” His voice slurred. “C-can’t see anything.” “You’ve been in an accident. I’m an EMT with the ambulance squad,” the velvety voice calmly explained. “You can’t see well because we’re under a tarp. Hold still, okay?” “‘K.” A small light flickered at the edge of his vision. It shone into a bag next to him. Penlight. “You’re restrained to a board. It’s to keep your head from moving and causing more injury.” She continued to talk to him. The voice reached down somewhere inside him, calming and peaceful, so he focused on it. A glow from spotlights on the outside lit whatever covered them. The shadow gave the woman the appearance of a halo-like angel.

  1. Thanks for sharing, D.V. How cool you’d like Lucille Ball to play you. I’d love to hear why. I’ve always admired her because of her comedic talent and business acumen running Desilu but recently saw her in a movie with Henry Fonda and came away admiring her dramatic chops as an actress.

Delightful interview! I love to learn about history too. And I admire you for taking on NaNo! 🙂 I know this is a terrific book.
