The Girl on the Train
The Girl on the Train, written by Paula Hawkins, is a truly gripping story of
A a woman named Rachel in dire need of help. A series of catastrophic and life-shifting events propel her into depression and alcoholism. As she rides the train every day she watches other people’s lives out the window. A little creepy right? She fantasizes about becoming the people she observes until she witnesses something that will alter the course of her life.
This is a book my book club, the Lit Ladies, read shortly after it came out. It’s full of twists and turns from every angle. It leaves you wondering who did what and how the story will end. Rachel is a disturbed character that you can’t help but root for when she makes bad choices over worse mistakes. She’s caught in a void and drama she can’t seem to get out of.
We decided to go see the movie and waited for it to come out. Doing it right we went to iPic in Redmond and had a fantastic time eating, drinking, and relaxing in our little recliners as once again we were gripped by the story.
It was one of those movies that actually followed the written word very well and was able to adapt a lot of the thoughts in Rachel’s head (in the book) to her alter ego, Emily Blunt (on-screen), who did amazing BTW.
The movie was fantastic, go see it, the book was fantastic, go read it!!
